Where To, Part 2

I've been thinking more about my post of yesterday, and realized that while the income would of course be welcome, my dilemma is not about that. It is, as I already said in the comments section, a sense that I may be neglecting something important here, that I may be letting an opportunity pass.

That, plus my upbringing and my A-type personality. It had been drilled into my head since I was little that I have to make something of myself; and I had always been one to not let interesting prospects pass.

Then again, right now my little girl is the no. 1 most interesting thing in the world to me.

Ah! All these issues, when I had promised myself to just enjoy what remains of summer!

At least one of the things that I have settled in my head is that from now on I will work with collections. You see, before I had thrived on the excitement of producing something new for the shop all the time, all year round. This way I came up with lots of crazy-lovely things, like my teacup terrariums and boxed universes. Now, I simply don't have the time, so it will have be a fixed set of products launched every three or four months. Every now and then, count on my restless nature to push me to come up with some random crazy-loveliness, but this will now be the exception rather than the rule.

I've been working on my Autumn-Winter collection these past few days. I'm using lots vintage French ticking fabric, and using new herbal concoctions -- think lavender mixed with cloves and star anise. I love how it spells both sweet and spicy at the same time. Here's a peek into my work space (Edited, of course, so you don't see all the mess, because one thing I really don't have time for is cleaning my sewing room!):

Collections make sense to me...and your pieces are all beautiful, whether they are of-the-moment inspired, or something planned--it's a wonderful shop you have!

And I will be looking forward to seeing what your fall-winter collection will be--what I see thus far is lovely!

I too had similar feelings about my own blog & business, and have just recently gotten back into "the groove" of things.

don't give up on it, make adjustsments accordingly...so far it's working for me!

love your new collection so far, can't wait to see the rest!

I think you should get her name down for nursery/childcare at least one day a week.. to start off with then you have one day to work.. be creative..write without little hands tearing things and little mouths nibbling at the paper... so you will have one day clear to work and the rest of your time you can be the best mum you can be. It isn't easy but it is rewarding.. H is 6 1/2 and every day brings new joys and sorrows.

I wish I had an A type personality.. I a Scanner I flip between obsessions and wobble about the seas aimlessly... I always wanted to be the driven sort that is mad to get things done.. to go go go.. instean I flail about.. but I'm mostly happy as I am when not in a depression hole.

collections sound great and I look forward to seeing the first one!

Just wanted to pass this on: http://www.tartx.com/blog/?page_id=233

I like this blogger's philosophy - BWO - Blogging Without Obligation. Replace "blog" with "etsy shop" :) and it just puts things in perspective, I think.

Apol, wonderful post, and something I have been pondering about myself ( read being frustrated )
I love the fact my shop took off, but it has been relentless/great/exhausting etc
I have five young children myself, and they are the most important 'thing' in my life, but I really do need/want to expand my business. All the ideas are there, but I seriously do not have the time. Personally I was thinking of closing my shop for awhile to grow my line of work, but somehow that does not seem right either. I am running out of time, and any thoughts you might have, I would love to read about it. Even bigger children will take up all the time ( as it should be :)

I hope you will find your balance, and go for it. You have a lovely business!
